Dear Holos Earth Friends,
How can it be that whilst Europe and the ‘West’ stand generally united against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission documented serious violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws, that Russia can claim it is liberating Ukraine from Nazism?

How can it be that whilst Russia and China consider the west to be fostering societal decadence, that the post-colonial and WOKE movements still stridently interrogate the West for the institutionalisation of cultural, political and economic legacy of colonialism and imperialism?
They focus on the impact of human control and exploitation of colonized people and their lands, feeling compelled to continue to act against ‘systemic’ or ‘institutional racism’. They denounce “…the omnipresence of an evil that remains entrenched in society due to the effect of unjust structures”.
Since the ‘Enlightenment’ Europe tended to consider itself to be the acme of civilisation – the bastion of human rights. Yet Europe was also the region where two devastating world wars ensued. It was as a result of the exposed genocidal horrors of the brutal Nazi regime that in 1948 the United Nations Organisation adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to be universally protected.
The Preamble, essentially drafted by Jan Christian Smuts, declared “… Disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people…”

So, since the vision at the founding of the United Nations was the advent of such a world order in which people would enjoy freedom of speech, and belief, and freedom from fear and want, how can it be human right abuses internationally appear to be on the increase?

In this on-line webinar of one and half hours, Holos Earth Project co-founder Dr Claudius van Wyk will explore the two critical missing ingredients that Jan Smuts proposed at the time of its inauguration. These will be shown to have undermined the capacity of the United Nations Organisation to carry out the mandate for which it was established.
We will explore together the core theme of the Holos Earth Project, namely, ‘human becoming’. We will examine how, in the holistic perspective, that might be reframed from a focus on rights and entitlement, to a focus on rights and shared responsibility. We will re-identify those two fundamental missing elements and how we might re-introduce them into society to ensure the future of our deeply challenge civilisation.
