‘Our Image of God Must Go’ 60 years since John Robinson’s Honest to God: The conference will explore the continuing place and significance of Bishop John Robinson’s famous text Honest to God, published in March 1963. This remarkable little book generated both controversy and praise from around the world and is one of the bestselling theological works of the 20th century. Papers from leading historians, philosophers, and theologians will examine the historical context of the 1960s, questions around Archbishop Ramsey’s denouncement of the work, the issues of God-images, the notion of a personal God, naturalism and supernaturalism, and the influence of Buber’s I-Thou, Biblical demythologisation, the radicality of Robinson’s work and the impact of belief and non-belief for the baby-boomers generation – see POSTER – see PROGRAMME
